Hello and welcome!
A couple of weeks ago, I saw this look worn by Giovanna Battaglia Engelbert during NYFW (photo by Chris Smart) and immediately fell in love. Listen, you already know this - it's been a great year for pink. I immediately DM'd the photo to my best friend telling her I had to recreate the look. A year ago I'd have been the last person to wear a look this bright, but that was last year and this is now. I think the look is perfect for the week we have coming up that's not quite fall but not quite summer either. Whattup, global warming?
Anyway, one day I was browsing through Le Chateau* at Eaton Centre and I came across a pair of hot pink high waisted trousers and everything made sense. It took me all of 24 hours to put the rest of the look together for a fraction of the price. See, Giovanna is a Senior Fashion Editor at Vogue Japan. Wearing $1300 fuchsia corduroy Celine trousers is a thing that she does and can afford to do and that's pretty freaking fabulous but it's not quite as feasible for me, so I thought I'd bring you this look for less. While I wasn't able to source every detail of Giovanna's look, below is a side by side breakdown of roughly the cost of her look vs. mine:
Le Chateau Trousers: C$99.95
Evil Taco T-Shirt (incl. shipping): C$37
Le Chateau Earrings: C$12.95
Le Chateau Necklace: C$35
Bonlook Skunkboy Sunglasses (already owned): C$145
Reebok Classic Women's Princess (already owned): C$75
Total: C$404 (C$220 of which I already owned)
Since I'm not a fan of white jewellery or done up hair, I made a few modifications by wearing gold accents and letting my hair loose, but overall I have to say I am still very into this look! Most of us already own white sneakers and some version of cat eye sunglasses, so the only things you'd have to go out of your way to find to are pink trousers and a pink t-shirt, which cost me under C$150. I'm super excited to wear these pants in the fall and add a little colour to my otherwise dreary cold weather wardrobe.
I had a lot of fun recreating @bat_gio's look for less and would love to do this kind of thing more often, if that's something you guys would like to see! Hit me up in the comments, in a DM, or wherever and let me know what looks you'd like to see me recreate a more budget-friendly version of.
Thanks so much for reading, and make sure to follow What We Wore on Instagram for some more weekly outfit inspo and other shenanigans.
Until next time!
